James Coyle

Thursday brought with it a cold and grey theme. Despite this me and Jimbo went on a photo mission. The day started poorly as the first two spots we visited were either being demolished or had been stolen. Our luck changed however and it turned into a pretty good day. CLICK TO ENLARGE

This particular obstacle at the Cathedral lost it's virginity today thanks to a nose grind..

This one however as seen plenty of wallie action over the years.

Another church and I think another virgin spot conquered. Check out the magical floating hat as well as the ollie.

There's more but we're keeping it under the magic hat for now.

Daniel Main Native Edit

Native just dropped this marvelous edit of team rider Dan Main. Style and origianlity make this a good watch. Filmed and edited by Josh Paxton.

Mile End

I went to London town recently and got this shot of a random American dude called Mark ollying out of Mile End park. I don't usually waste film in skate parks but this is kind of half street so I allowed it. Unbeknown to me it was the last shot on my roll so I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Bingo's send off skate

Sunday the 13th of February marked a special event to commemorate and celebrate the life of Steven Binks. Hopefully it was just the start and the lands skaters make a pilgrimage every February to skate hard in the name of Bingo. People from all over the county were able to make it to 5 bridges and the good old British weather wasn't going to stop what turned out to be and epic session. All photos were shot on 35mm film. CLICK TO ENLARGE.

A large portrait of Bingo was put up on the central pillar so he can look down on us and give props from skate heaven.

Beneath the portrait is a wonderful poem that captures mine and I'd imagine most others feelings brilliantly.

Ant did an amazing mural on the bank also. Blinky gets above it for a 50-50 rail jam while various North East legends watch on.

Dave Mackey and the Lost Art crew made the trip from Liverpool.

Jimmy Boyce came to show his respects by skating hard and slamming hard.

Dan Cates reads the poem whilst motions are performed poetically behind him.

Another little reminder of the great man was placed on the big ledge.

Plenty of Yorkshire heads made the short trip north. Tom Harrison was one of them and here he shows off his pop.

Ben Grove also made the trip. He arrived a bit later than everyone else but did not stop skating until he left hours later. He unfortunately lost a long battle with a front blunt kick flip out on the big ledge so had to settle for various other impressive tricks including this straight front blunt. Hopefully he'll back next year to get the flip out.

To see all the action from what was an amazing send off for an amazing man head over to the Sidewalk site via the link below and check out their edit from the day. Bingo would have been proud. Rest in Peace mate.

R.I.P Steve 'Bingo' Binks.

To Bingo.

You were one of the nicest people I've ever known. Your love for skateboarding helped shape the entire scene in the north of east of England and nobody will ever forget that. I only knew you for a couple of years but in that short time I grew to love skating and bantering with you. Every Sunday I would wake up and say to myself; 'I hope Bingo and the Mischief crew are at Bridges today' as you always made the session that much better. Your presence brought smiles and laughter wherever you went and even though your days of actually skating were over there are very few people I can think of that I enjoyed the company of more whilst on the session. My heart goes out to those closest to you. Death is a difficult thing to come to terms with but we must continue to remember you as one of the happiest and most loved people in skateboarding. The only thing left for us to do is celebrate your wonderful life and remember what an incredible person you were. Bingo...we all love you and will miss you forever.

Will Creswick

Today brought with it a fairly monumental occasion in my world. I was able to get away from 5 Bridges and actually shoot something in the streets! The spot was The Boat House ledge. The trick was a back smith. The subject was Will Creswick (aka The Wizzley, The Whisky, Wizzley Snipes). CLICK TO ENLARGE.

Hopefully more from the golden child and others soon.

Nov/Dec on film

Winter came early this year so shooting skate photos has been a bit of a struggle. Here's a roll of 35mm I shot over the past 6 weeks. CLICK TO ENLARGE.

Remember the sun? Jamie Errington ollie's through it before it disappeared.

With rough ground everywhere Jamie pops a high speed ollie to the road.

Peter Lally ollie's into the light.

Jamie once again, this time he's transferring to backside noseblunt at 5 Bridges.

The following were all taken on the same snowy day last week.

Blinky.

Team Ireland.

More now from Mr Errington to finish us off. Watch out for Jamie in The Harmony's Berlin article in January's issue of Sidewalk.

Ollie up to Five-O.

Backside 360.

Frontside over crooks/nosegrind.

Frontside board slide.

Not much blogging will be taking place over the festive period but the new year will hopefully bring better weather and opportunities to shoot somewhere other than 5 Bridges.

Bridges Archives

Seen as we're in for a long, cold and dark winter spent shivering at 5 Bridges I thought I'd put up some shots from past years to keep you warm.

Saturday

This Saturday was rather an unfruitful day; I drove all the way to Stanley handrail with the intention of shooting Jamie doing some stunts only to find that it has a nice lip just before it. We spent about 20 minutes trying to fix it using Duct tape, it didn't work. Instead of coming home with nothing we at least shot this cheeky little nose bonk, it's nothing special but at least it wasn't a total waste of time.

Earlier in the day before we went to Stanley I got a couple of sequences of the lads in Shieldfield.

Dan with an ollie nose manny, a trick that is way harder than it looks.

October on film

Sorry for the slackness over the last few weeks. Here's a mix of skating shots of the usual suspects and some others from my recent trip to London. The roll I used was Fuji Provia 200 , I shot it throughout October and hopefully it compensates slightly for the lack of blogging. The spool on my camera broke so I accidentally opened the back before the roll was back in the canister, fortunately I only lost a couple of images to the clutches of the suns rays and it actually had quite a satisfying affect on others. CLICK TO ENLARGE.

This image combines my mistake of exposing the roll to daylight and the mistake of the person who scanned it to create a photo that is potentially better than either of the images that conceived it. Sometimes mistakes breed success.

Brick Lane is a Hipsters paradise, there's street art and fixed gear bike shops as far as the eye can see. This piece of incredible street art is just off Brick Lane, it has been chipped out of the plaster on the side of a building, thinking about the skill and time that went into this blew my mind. The photo is by no means a piece of art but I had to document it.

Here we have my 7 year old cousin repping Slam City and giving society the finger. Or is it directed at me?

As most people know Covent Garden is full of eccentrics like this street performer. Well, someone who sits perfectly still in a costume isn't necessarily a performer in my book but they're still quite entrancing.

Me and Peter Lally were skating back from Mile End park when Lally noticed this furry little fella chilling on a fence post, I couldn't not blog him. He's a bit hard to spot but the other images I took of him were lost in a storm of incompetence.

Back to The Toon and to shooting skaters busting out advanced maneuvers.

Pigs in Wigs' MVP Dan Main executing a tight little tail slide from two angles.

Jamie Errington administers a dose of skateboarding medicine in the form of a backside noseblunt slide.

To finish we have Jamie in the latter stages of a backside tail to switch crooks. A trick that he polishes with style every time.

That's all for now but as the long nights set in I'll do my best to top the blog up like a Sunderland fan trying to top up their pride, it won't be easy.
