Matthew Smith of Pigs in Wigs fame recently had his first photo in a magazine. Shot by yours truly it can be found in the Altar section of February's issue of Sidewalk mag along with a review of Pigs in Wigs. Hopefully a first light will follow at some point in the future.

A few days of summer in March.

The past week saw the sun bring its light and warmth to the north east for the first time in what seemed like an age. James Coyle has thrown together a little edit of some of the skating that occured during this springy period.

Behind the scenes.

Back in January on a cold winter night James Coyle decided to shoot the intro for his upcoming scene video. I brought along my recently acquired 35mm point and shoot camera to document some of the evening. That 'some' being the end as i left the camera in the car. Oops.

Meadowell birthday montage

Tuesday was the end of the 23rd year of my life and I spent the good part of the day in Meadowell. That might not sound like the best way to spend your birthday but when you've got new wheels, a smooth park and some dogs to shred with a good time can be had. Jimbo put this little montage of the session up as a little prezzie. Featuring Nial McDermot, Dan Main, James Coyle and yours truly Ben Larthe.

James Coyle gets a bump.

James Coyle recently got bumped up to full Am status for Crayon Skateboards as well as moving from flow up to the eS UK team. Congratulations are in order as he deserves nothing less after consistantly shredding the north east for over 5 years now. Here is a little clip to welcome him to his new respective teams.

Thursday brought with it a cold and grey theme. Despite this me and Jimbo went on a photo mission. The day started poorly as the first two spots we visited were either being demolished or had been stolen. Our luck changed however and it turned into a pretty good day. CLICK TO ENLARGE

This particular obstacle at the Cathedral lost it's virginity today thanks to a nose grind..



This one however as seen plenty of wallie action over the years.



Another church and I think another virgin spot conquered. Check out the magical floating hat as well as the ollie.



There's more but we're keeping it under the magic hat for now.

Mile End

I went to London town recently and got this shot of a random American dude called Mark ollying out of Mile End park. I don't usually waste film in skate parks but this is kind of half street so I allowed it. Unbeknown to me it was the last shot on my roll so I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Bingo's send off skate

Sunday the 13th of February marked a special event to commemorate and celebrate the life of Steven Binks. Hopefully it was just the start and the lands skaters make a pilgrimage every February to skate hard in the name of Bingo. People from all over the county were able to make it to 5 bridges and the good old British weather wasn't going to stop what turned out to be and epic session. All photos were shot on 35mm film. A large portrait of Bingo was put up on the central pillar so he can look down on us and give props from skate heaven.



Beneath the portrait is a wonderful poem that captures mine and I'd imagine most others feelings brilliantly.



Ant did an amazing mural on the bank also. Blinky gets above it for a 50-50 rail jam while various North East legends watch on.



Dave Mackey and the Lost Art crew made the trip from Liverpool.






Jimmy Boyce came to show his respects by skating hard and slamming hard.





Dan Cates reads the poem whilst motions are performed poetically behind him.



Another little reminder of the great man was placed on the big ledge.



Plenty of Yorkshire heads made the short trip north. Tom Harrison was one of them and here he shows off his pop.



Ben Grove also made the trip. He arrived a bit later than everyone else but did not stop skating until he left hours later. He unfortunately lost a long battle with a front blunt kick flip out on the big ledge so had to settle for various other impressive tricks including this straight front blunt. Hopefully he'll back next year to get the flip out.

R.I.P Steve 'Bingo' Binks.

To Bingo.



You were one of the nicest people I've ever known. Your love for skateboarding helped shape the entire scene in the north of east of England and nobody will ever forget that. I only knew you for a couple of years but in that short time I grew to love skating and bantering with you. Every Sunday I would wake up and say to myself; 'I hope Bingo and the Mischief crew are at Bridges today' as you always made the session that much better. Your presence brought smiles and laughter wherever you went and even though your days of actually skating were over there are very few people I can think of that I enjoyed the company of more whilst on the session. My heart goes out to those closest to you. Death is a difficult thing to come to terms with but we must continue to remember you as one of the happiest and most loved people in skateboarding. The only thing left for us to do is celebrate your wonderful life and remember what an incredible person you were. Bingo...we all love you and will miss you forever.

Today brought with it a fairly monumental occasion in my world. I was able to get away from 5 Bridges and actually shoot something in the streets! The spot was The Boat House ledge. The trick was a back smith. The subject was Will Creswick (aka The Wizzley, The Whisky, Wizzley Snipes). CLICK TO ENLARGE.
